CoHousing: an antidote to modern day isolation?

A new style of living is becoming increasingly popular in the Bay Area, and across the country. It’s called cohousing, and it’s sort of like dorm-style living for adults -- only instead of a room, you get a house. The concept originated in Denmark. Its growth in the United States is thanks in large part to Charles Durrett. He’s the author of CoHousing: A Contemporary Approach to Housing Ourselves. The book has helped inspire more than a hundred cohousing communities across the country, including half a dozen in the East Bay. More recently, Durrett wrote Senior CoHousing: A Community Approach to Independent Living. KALW’s Ben Trefny spoke with Durrett to learn more.
