The Tarantulas Jug Band

A jug band is a band that consists of a jug player and incorporates other homemade instruments into the mix. The "host band" of the San Francisco Jug Band Festival, the Tarantulas incorporate sounds from the 1920's and  blend Delta blues, field and work songs, ragtime, tin-pan-alley favorites, and Cajun rock. With nine members ranging from Santa Cruz to Richmond, this band has a flavor that is all its own! 

You'll be able to learn a lot about jug band music - and maybe even get to play some yourself - in connection with the showing of "It Sounds So Sweet," a documentary about this original form of American folk music. The documentary screens at 2:30pm at the Main Library in San Francisco's Civic Center this coming Saturday (07.30). Members of the California Jug Band Association will be on hand afterwards to play. They'll also be giving lessons to audience members interested in trying to make some music themselves.
