Pants optional today on BART

I was not lucky enough to have witnessed this public improv act first-hand, but if you were at the 16th street/Mission BART station today around 3pm, you probably saw hoardes of half-dressed people board the train at exactly the same time.  Coincidence?  No, not even in San Francisco does that happen by chance.

Today was the annual No Pants! Subway Ride, first organized by Improv Everywhere in New York City nine years ago.  Today, San Francisco was one of 44 No Pants! rides organized in 14 countries around the world.

Improv Everywhere is based in New York, and it's mission is to cause "scenes of chaos and joy in public spaces."  To date, the organization has executed over 100 missions involving tens of thousands of people.

If you were part of today's no pants ride, or just an innocent bystander, give us a call and let us know how it went -- was there joy, or chaos, or both?  Leave us a message at (415) 264-7106.

On Sunday, I was working with a documentary film crew from Italy who had just asked if we could find some "strange San Franciscans walking down the street" to film for them.

All of the sudden, I saw a big group of people walking up 16th street, all of them without any pants on. We got the camera rolling, and gave the Italians what they asked for, and then some!

Now I know the backstory. Thanks, Crosscurrents!

I've heard so much about this event, and wish I could have participated. I wonder how the weather affects participation in various cities around the world?
