Editors' picks: best of the week from KALW News

It’s been a busy week and what, with work, the awesome weather and Harrison Ford marrying Ally McBeal, you may not have gotten the chance to enjoy your fill of KALW News. Never fear! Our editors put together a collection of our best reads and listens of the week, just for you:
OAKLAND'S CHINATOWN SERIES: This week, KALW News partnered with Mills College to go deep into Oakland’s Chinatown, exploring the historic neighborhood’s many layers.
We talked to Oakland first ever gang-unit officer, who tackled organized crime in 1980’s Chinatown.
We discovered the costs of urban renewal. The current Lake Merritt BART station sits on top of what was once a thriving neighborhood, including a remarkable home for orphans.
And we also saw where smart development has created amazing spaces in Chinatown, where community thrives.
PROP 8 TRIAL CLOSING ARGUMENTS: KALW News also headed to the federal district courthouse, where lawyers closed up their cases for and against Proposition 8, the voter initiative that changed California’s constitution to disallow same-sex marriage.
A FOREIGNER'S PERSPECTIVE ON SF CULTURE: And our fellow from Austria made his way through the nuances of American eating habits.
Happy weekend, everybody! Check back Monday for more from our tireless news team.
